Abstract
Purpose: To analyze and compare performance of standard single vision lens and new design lens for improving accommodative facility when wearing lenses in everyday life conditions for pre-presbyopes.

Methods: 50 healthy non presbyopes aged from 35 to 45yrs.(mean age 39.7¡¾3.9yrs.) were recruited. We measured corrected visual acuity at distance and near, near point of accommodation, near point of convergence, horizontal phoria at distance and near, accommodative facility and subjective satisfaction by questionnaire at baseline and during 1 month wearing of new design lenses(RelaxSee, Nikon Co.).

Results: There was no significant difference for adaptation and visual comfort at distance visual activity between standard single vision lenses and new design lenses. The objective visual function was significantly improved at near visual acuity, near point of accommodation, near point of convergence and accommodative facility with wearing new design lenses. The subjective satisfaction of visual comfort for near activities was higher at new design lens wear than at standard single vision lens wear. 70% of the wearers have preferred RelaxSee lens over standard single vision lens.

Conslusions:The performance of new design lens is better assessed for near visual activities including work on the computer. There is considered that the RelaxSee lens would improve performance of near work and quality of life of prepresbyopes.
